Termite Treatments

After the first initial inspection, if any termite activity is located, we will create a strategic plan offering effective solutions, take into consideration that treatments may include a combination of alternative methods. We’ve highlighted some of the most common defences in the war against termite infestation:

Wood treatment

Effective treatment of wood includes surface spray, injected spray, and foams. Borate wood treatments can also be used, which will kill any existing termites whilst preventing future infestation.

Soil treatment

Soil treatment is used on the surrounding area to exterminate any termites living within it. A trench is created as a barrier against the termites, to which the soil is then treated with a termiticide. This method not only exterminates termites but prevents future infestation.

Bait system

Baits are an important tool for the control and prevention of termites. Termite baiting systems contain wood attractive to termites, which is placed in the ground around the property. This system works as a monitoring station, where termites are intercepted prior to entering your home.

Two major types of Termites on The Gold Coast

There are multiple species of termites, however, the Gold Coast contains two common species: the Subterranean Termite, and Drywood Termite (source: City of Gold Coast).

  • Subterranean termite
Subterranean termites, also known as ‘white-ants’ are highly destructive in nature. They create a nest structure with a nursery and foraging gallery system that must be a connection to the soil as a source of moisture. Galleries within timber have walls plastered with faeces whilst external galleries consist of mud or carton materials. Most termite species are subterranean in habit.
  • Drywood termite
Drywood termites live in galleries within timber or within very short bridging galleries between adjacent pieces of timber. They require no connection to the soil and maintain clear gallery walls. Faeces accumulate from free running pellets or frass (excrement of insect larvae) with the consistency of coarse pepper.

Signs of Termites

  • Termite droppings are the very first thing you will notice. If you’ve already seen some, it’s time to call the experts – 1800 737 836
  • Wood tunnels are specific to termites but much harder to spot with the naked eye.
  • Windows and doors are hard to open – if you’re experiencing a stuck window or door, it might be time to call us. Termites greatly impact windows and doors by warping them, causing them to either cease movement or misshapen.

Termite prevention

Termite infestation can be prevented. Here are some simple and useful tips to help prevent an infestation:

  1. Reduce moisture – termites love moisture, so it’s crucial that you reduce areas of increased humidity on your property
  2. Check for leaks – check the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and ground level for any signs of a leak
  3. Reduce their food – termites are especially fond of wood and paper, so reducing these could prevent an infestation
  4. Keep mulch away from the house – if you’re fond of using mulch, ensure you not only keep it far away from your house but also make sure it has been treated with the appropriate insecticides
  5. Keep firewood secure – your firewood should be stored within a metal framework, rather than sitting around in your backyard or in a large heap on the dirt
  6. Book an inspection – yearly inspections carried out by a professional are crucial to the successful prevention of termites
